When we were planning our trip to St. Lucia, we found that one of the many adventures the island offered was horseback riding along the beach, which was definitely something that we wanted to experience. We took a private 2-hour Sunset Beach Ride, riding with Delwin Dore, owner of Dore’s Riding Stables, and it was an exciting, unforgettable, and magical experience, especially when we rode the horses bareback into the Caribbean Sea!
To live life to its fullest, there should be special memories that you create along the way no matter where life takes you. Traveling around the world as we do, we have had the opportunity to experience many wonderful adventures that will always remain in our hearts and minds long after we return home. In September of 2026, we took a trip to the island of St. Lucia, which is part of the Lesser Antilles chain, located in the Eastern Caribbean Sea. As this was our first time to the island, we researched what the island had to offer in the form of adventures before our trip and found that one of the many exciting activities available was horseback riding on the beach, something that interested both of us.

Before our trip to St. Lucia, we contacted Dore’s Riding Stables, owned by Delwin Dore, to learn more about his company and found that he offered a variety of horseback experiences including a 1-hour Beach Ride, a 2-hour Beach Ride, a 2-hour Sunset Tour, a Gros-Islet 2-hour Tour, a 3-hour Horse & Buggy, a 3-hour Ride & Hike, a Private Tour, and a Pigeon Point Pony Ride. After reviewing the possibilities, we decided on a Private 2-Hour Sunset Beach Ride.
While we have ridden horses in the United States, in Germany, in Iceland, and on the island of Martinique, this would be our first time riding horses on a beach and into the water and that was something that excited us tremendously!
As the roads on St. Lucia are narrow, winding, with many curves over the rolling hills, and cars have their steering wheels on the right side and you drive on the left side of the road, we felt it best to leave the driving to the local professionals. Arrangements were made with Owin H. Antoine, owner of Off The Beaten Path Taxi Service for round-trip service from our hotel, Secrets St. Lucia Resort & Spa to Dore’s Riding Stables on Friday, September 11, 2026. Owin was professional, courteous, and made the drive fun by pointing out the various sights and providing us with lots of interesting information.

After much anticipation prior to our arrival on St. Lucia, now that we were finally there we were eager to begin our adventure. Meeting Delwin, we learned that he has been riding since age 11. In 2019, Delwin realized his dream and his passion for horses by creating his company, Dore’s Riding Stable.

Debra was on her first horse at the age of 2, and since then has loved riding whenever she has the opportunity. Edward came to horseback riding later; however, he is always ready for an adventure. Our horses saddled and “riders up” with Delwin Dore riding in the lead on bareback on his horse Confidence, Debra riding (in a saddle) on the horse, Café, Edward (riding in a saddle) on a gentle horse named Oprah, and Farley Dorville riding bareback on Lady Rose, to photograph our experience, we were off to explore the Eastern Coast of St. Lucia. Every great adventure needs a mascot, and Silver, Delwin’s dog, was happy to take on that important job and ran behind and sometimes ahead of us throughout our ride.
The Sunset Beach Ride consisted of trail, street, and beach riding to give us a true taste of the island and its diverse landscape. It was a Friday night, and as we passed Revolution Bay there was music playing, people dancing, and it was the perfect party atmosphere to accompany our ride.
The scenery was gorgeous with diverse landscape along the way with palm trees giving way to a rocky coast. When we arrived at Pigeon Island Park we could see the rolling hills in the background, and it felt fabulous to be back in the saddle again. The big moment we had been waiting for though was when we arrived at a sandy beach and the sun was just starting to gradually make its descent. We removed the saddles from our horses, climbed back on, this time with Edward riding on Lady Rose, and rode them bareback along the beach and into the calm waters of the Caribbean Sea.

Sunsets are always special, however experiencing a sunset in St. Lucia on horseback in the Caribbean Sea, was a phenomenal experience, a feeling, and a memory that will forever be imprinted in our hearts. It was a magical moment swimming with our horses in the Caribbean Sea, then letting them cool down, drying them and giving them a cuddle before saddling them up for the ride back.
At the end of our ride, Owin was waiting for us to bring us back to the resort. It was a perfect adventure from the beginning to the end, and a memorable and unique experience.
