Ah, the glorious spring season is here and summer is approaching, my mind is racing with ideas.
Well, for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere spring is here. It is time to start thinking about spring cleaning, outdoor chores, but for this man my thoughts are also on - wine, liquor, travel, music, beaches, sunshine, warm weather, and a few other things as well.
You may have guessed I adore when the weather starts to turn warm and the thought of getting outside for walks at night, bike rides during the day, and cooking outdoors on the grill brings a smile to my face. My thoughts turn to the different liquors and liqueurs I sampled during the festive time of the fall and winter season as they start to surface as the ideal mix to create a refreshing cocktail for a hot summer day, a suitable aperitif, the apropos after dinner cordial, or perfect sipping liquor. This month we are featuring a versatile liquor in Bison Grass Vodka, and you can bet I will be using this in many of the summer cocktails, or straight up from the freezer; for some great cocktail recipes using Bison Grass Vodka please read - Bison Grass Vodka; for additional information on liquors, liqueurs, cocktail and food recipes check out the Liquor Cabinet section.
When I think about spring cleaning, I think about travel. Ok, where is the connection, well when I travel I have to sift through my clothes as I decide on what I need to take with me, and this gives me a chance to spring clean by delegating a few items for the donation bin. So, to get your spring cleaning started you have to have a holiday scheduled. The thought of travel is alive in all corners of the world, and the glorious world of travel has become easier to navigate as people surf-the-net for ideas. I just returned from International Travel Berlin (Berlin, Germany - March, 2007), which is one of the largest international travel fairs in the world representing every country and destination imaginable, and the energy and excitement that was felt throughout the fair was spectacular. I spoke with many different country travel representatives and they were telling me that 2006 was one of the best years ever for travel and tourism, and that 2007 was looking to be even better. So, if you have not planned your vacation yet you had better get your thoughts turned to your vacation fancy and get on the Internet, or contact your local travel agent or tour operator, so you do not miss out on that trip of a lifetime, and also a chance to get some spring cleaning done. You should also make a point to check out the wonderful websites by country, which have a wealth of information available.
With respect to those ‘outdoor chores,' well I think about the fun chore of selecting the wine to go with all of the great summer events and food. Thus, with summer foods ranging from light salads to heavy barbeques, and events at the beach, outdoor picnics, outdoor concerts, or a house party, I have my work cut out for me to find some new wines to work with, but I have an excellent reference point to work from. For great wine and food pairings please check out any of the many restaurants featured within the Restaurants section, or the wines featured within the Wine Cellar section; we like to feature wine pairings with each course that is featured in an article. I would recommend that you use the Search feature and insert your pairing item (example - Beef), and then select from the list of articles featuring restaurants or wines where the item was served, and you can read about the wine that was paired.
Well, spring is here and summer is just around the corner, it is not too late to start letting your thoughts run wild as you make plans for spring cleaning, or how you plan to tackle those outdoor chores. I hope the change in seasons brings you new experiences to enjoy.
