The Westport Country Playhouse located in Westport, Connecticut celebrated its 90th anniversary on June 29, 2021, and Luxury Experience was there to help them celebrate. After a year of no in-person performances it was fabulous to be back in the theatre to experience the one-night only, in-person screening of the comedic play, Tiny House, written by Michael Gotch and directed by Mark Lamos. The virtual production of Tiny House runs as "screening on demand" from June 29 - July 18, 2021.

Since June 29, 1931, the Westport Country Playhouse has produced over 800 plays throughout its long history creating a rich legacy of plays by renowned playwrights and a "who's who" of acclaimed actors who have graced its stage. From the moment we saw our first play there, All My Sons starring Richard Dreyfus and Jill Clayburgh in 2003, we were hooked on the Westport Country Playhouse and its high-quality performances. Throughout the years we have experienced an astounding number of outstanding plays there that have entertained, educated, and sometimes challenged the audience, which is the purpose of live theatre.

With the COVID-19 epidemic closing theatres for the 2020 season, planning for the 2021 season brought new challenges to the Westport Country Playhouse, however with "show must go on" thinking, to celebrate their 90th anniversary, Artistic Director Mark Lamos selected playwright Michael Gotch's play, Tiny House, which was filmed remotely with the actors in their individual homes on "green screen," then with the magic of a talented creative team, merged the actors' scenes with the scenery. Tiny House is a virtual performance that celebrates creative success and the talents of the cast and creative team.

To celebrate their 90th anniversary, the Westport Country Playhouse had a one-night only in-person screening of Tiny House on Tuesday, June 29, 2021, that began with a pre-screening reception followed by anniversary cake and champagne at intermission. It felt wonderful to be "back home" in the theatre, if even for only one night.

The play, Tiny House, focuses on a young couple played by Sara Blues as Sam and Denver Milord as her husband Nick, who want to escape from the conflicts of the world by building a remote tiny house in the woods. Hilarity ensues when their nearest neighbors in the woods stop by to visit, namely the elder-hippie neighbors Win played by Stephen Pelinski and his wife Carol played Kathleen Pirkl-Tague who dress in Medieval clothing, and their survivalist, apocalyptic neighbor Bernard played by Hassan El-Amin who is ready for the end of the world.

It appears that all is well if not a bit wacky at Sam and Nick's tiny house, which fits them just fine, until mama comes to visit for the Fourth of July toting Uncle Larry along, played by Elizabeth Heflin as Sam's mother Billie, and Lee E. Ernst as Larry. When these seven characters meet one another at the tiny house in the woods, conflicts and secrets fly fast and furious with delectable dialogue and hilarity.

About the Westport Country Playhouse

The Westport Country Playhouse named as "Theatre Company of the Year" in December 2013 by The Wall Street Journal, opened on June 29, 1931, in a transformed 1835 cow barn, which has, and continues to attract, a "who's who" of prominent actors.

Looking at the framed posters of past shows that line the lobby walls was like entering an encyclopedia of the arts. A few of the many renowned actors who have appeared on the stage there include Ethyl Barrymore, Dorothy and Lillian Gish, Tallulah Bankhead, Gloria Swanson, Don Ameche, Hume Cronin and Jessica Tandy, Jane Fonda, Danny Aiello, Blythe Danner, Jill Clayburgh, Richard Dreyfus, Whoopi Goldberg, Liza Minnelli, Bernadette Peters, Lynn Redgrave, Gene Wilder, and Westport residents Joanne Woodward and Paul Newman.

"Westport Country Playhouse, a not-for-profit theater, serves as a cultural nexus for patrons, artists and students and is a treasured resource for the State of Connecticut. There are no boundaries to the creative thinking for future seasons or the kinds of audiences and excitement for theater that Westport Country Playhouse can build."
