Russian National Ballet – Cinderella

As a bit of history about the full-length two-act ballet, Sergei Prokofiev composed the music between 1940 and 1944, with libretto by Nicolai Volkov, and choreography by Rostislav Zakharov. It premiered at the Bolshoi Theatre in 1945.

This stage version and editorial was by Elena Radchenko and Alexander Daev (choreography assistant), sets and costumes by Elisaveta Dvorkina, and lighting by Marina Borodina.

The company was founded in Moscow in 1989 under the direction of the famous dancer Sergei Radchenko, and includes the Russian National Ballet Theatre with Director Elena Radchenko, and the Moscow Festival Ballet with Director Sergey Radchenko.

Cinderella is a delightful tale of fantasy and romance that always captures the hearts of all, both young and old, and the Russian National Ballet Theatre’s performance at the Quick Center for the Arts on March 29, 2017 stole many hearts that evening with its exquisite perfection.

The Russian National Ballet Theatre is a highly-regarded company for classic ballet, and technical excellence and graceful execution by the dancers exceeded our expectations, and the gorgeous costumes and lavish set dazzled our eyes, making the ballet a joy to watch as we fell under the spell of this enchanting story.

"Ugly Step-Sisters" – Russian National Ballet – Cinderella

Maria Klueva performing the role of Cinderella was a vision to watch, as was Eldar Sarsembayev as the Prince, and Olga Gudkova as the Fairy Godmother. Delightfully entertaining were the dancers Evgeniy Rudakov as Cinderella’s Stepmother, and Elena Khorosheva and Milena Stashina as the Ugly Step-Sisters, who amused the audience with their crazy antics, and the entire company’s performance was one of flawless perfection.

Although the story is well-known, at the end of the ballet when the Prince is reunited with Cinderella, there is always the excitement of romance and that the couple will live happily ever after. Beautifully performed by the Russian National Ballet Theatre, the story will continue to live on in the hearts of the Quick Center for the Arts’ audience.

Conveniently located in Fairfield, Connecticut, the Quick Center for the Arts is a 30-minute drive from Greenwich and New Haven, a 60-minute drive from Hartford, and a 90-minute drive from New York City.
