| After a full day of outstanding wine, food, beer, and spirits, the Greenwich WINE + FOOD Festival presented by PepsiCo (GW+FF) ended the event with an amazing concert in the evening. For the 2019 Greenwich WINE + FOOD Festival presented by PepsiCo, Michael Franti & Spearhead was the opening band to get the attendees in the mood to party, followed by the GRAMMY, ACM, CMA, and AMA Award-winning band, Little Big Town.
Greenwich WINE + FOOD Festival
Over the years we have heard The CCB Reggae All Stars opening for Tim McGraw (2018), Ian Murray Band opening for TRAIN (2017), Ziggy Marley opening for Old Crow Medicine Show (2016), Assembly of Dust opening for Little Big Town (2015), Ian Murray Band, The Bacon Brothers, and Alabama (2014) perform during the GW+FF.
On Saturday, September 21, 2019, the super talented and engaging Michael Franti and Spearhead opened the concert in Roger Sherman Baldwin Park in Greenwich, Connecticut, with their unique and energetic mix of funk, reggae, jazz, folk and rock deftly blended into a harmonious musical cocktail. Founded in 1994 in San Francisco, the band features frontman Michael Franti (vocals), Carl Young on bass, J. Bowman on guitar, Mike Blankenship on keyboards, and Manas Itiene on drums.
Little Big Town
Little Big Town comprised of Karen Fairchild, Phillip Sweet, Kimberly Schlapman, and Jimi Westbrook returned to the GW+FF to create more musical magic, however before the band hit the musical stage, Kimberly Schlapman, a talented cook as well as a talented singer, took to the culinary demo stage earlier in the day to whip upsome culinary magic. The band also recently launched 4 Cellars wine with Browne Family Vineyards, which was flowing throughout the day, of which we had the pleasure of sampling.
Founded in 1998, Little Big Town has won numerous Country Music awards throughout their career. For their performance at the 2019 GW+FF, they performed a selection of music that showcased their past, their present, and their future, with new cuts from their upcoming January 2020 album release.
Little Big Town Live at GW + FF
The band opened with their #1 single, Pontoon, off their 2012 Tornado album, followed by Day Drinking, also a #1 single, off their 2014 Painkiller album that was a fitting tribute to GW+FF. Next up in the playlist was Front Porch Thing, another cut off their 2012 Tornado album.
The band traveled even further back in time with their song, Bones, off their 2005 The Road To Here album. The band segued into the song, Sober, off the 2012 Tornado album, followed by the 2019 GRAMMY-nominated song, When Someone Stops Loving, off The Breaker album.
Little White Church off their 2010 The Reason Why album had the audience singing along with the band, followed by their cover of the 1995 Oasis song, Wonderwall. The band played another cut off their 2005 The Road To Here album with their song, Bring It On Home. Segueing into new music, the band thrilled the audience with their song, Daughters off their ninth studio album, Nightfall, scheduled for release on January17, 2020.
The band deftly covered Rocket Man in a tribute to Elton John, then performed another new song, Over-Drinking, off their upcoming Nightfall album to whet the audience's appetite for what is slated to be yet another phenomenal release judging by what we heard at the concert.
Coming into the final stretch of the concert, the band performed the title track Summer Fever, off their 2018 album by the same name. The band closed out the concert with two more cuts off their 2017 The Breaker album, Night On Our Side, and their GRAMMY-award winning, multi-week #1 single, Better Man.
From its culinary start to its sensational concert finale, the 2019 GW+FF was an exceptional experience.
Until next time, keep enjoying the music!
