While the quality of CDs is excellent, there is no match for being a part of a live performance when you have the opportunity. When Devon Allman and his band played at StageOne in Fairfield, Connecticut on Friday, March 8, 2013, it was all about the music and making the connection. Singer, songwriter, lead guitarist, and bandleader, Devon Allman charmed the audience with his talent, his voice, and his heartfelt lyrics. Sometimes sitting or standing at the very edge of the stage, Devon played to the audience as is if he was playing a private concert just for them. However, the cohesive energy of the audience was contagious, oftentimes seeming like one giant rhythmic energy pulse.
Playing with his touring band, featuring Pedro Arevalo on bass, Bobby Schneck, Jr. on second guitar, and Anthony Nanney on drums, Devon opened the concert with his song, When I Left Home, the first cut off of his new CD, Turquoise, released on the Ruf Records label, setting the pace for an evening of high-energy, Southern Blues Rock.

The band also played other great cuts off the release including, End of Time, and Time Machine, and in the second set played the slow-paced Turn Off The World, which he explained he wrote after an incredible trip to the gorgeous island of Curaçao. The lyrics, "The plane is boarding....I've got my passport, Ready for the white sands...thirsty for turquoise, I need some sunshine....on my white skin, I'm ready for it all to begin ...," made us want to hop on a plane and discover it for ourselves. Especially when he sings, "You've gotta slow down, Sometimes...and turn off the world, Hit the road now, It's time...to turn off the world ..." Bobby Schneck, Jr. Pedro Arevalo
A generous performer, there were blazing guitar duets between Devon and Bobby Schneck, Jr. and when the two left the stage for a short intermission, Pedro Arevalo showed his prowess with a sizzling solo as well as a duet with Anthony Nanney on drums, then left Anthony on stage to round out the first set with a blistering drum solo.
Returning for the second set, the band played Mahalo and Torch, the title track off Devon's Honeytribe release, followed by the song, Left My Heart in Memphis, his 2012 release with his band, Royal Southern Brotherhood, which earned a nomination for a 2012 Blues Music Award. Seated, the band slowed the pace a bit with Devon's heart rendering version of the Gregg Allman song, Melissa, which had the audience joining in and singing along with him.

Singer/guitarist Arum Rae, who opened for the band, came back out to join Devon on the Tom Petty song, Stop Draggin' My Heart Around. The song is also on the 11-track Turquoise release, and is the only cover, on which Devon sings the duet with Ruf Records label mate, Samantha Fish.

During an interview with Devon (read the Devon Allman - Interview in the Music Scene) he mentioned that he likes B.B. King, and as B.B. does during his performances, before Devon closed out the evening's performance, he invited Bobby Paltauf, a talented, up-and-coming 13-year old guitarist to come up on stage and join the band playing the song, One Way Out. Bobby Schneck, Jr. gave him his guitar to play a few licks, and when he proved his mettle, he had the unique opportunity to play a duet alongside Devon, and for a few moments, to be a part of the Devon Allman band.

After the show, Devon continued making the connection, coming out and meeting the audience, something he said that he does after each performance. While a few members of the audience unfamiliar with the talent of Devon Allman may have initially come to the show because of the famous Allman name, his father is Gregg, and his uncle was the late acclaimed slide guitarist Duane Allman, they left as Devon fans. An amazing talent, a generous spirit, and an engaging personality, Devon and his band rocked the house for an unforgettable evening of music and received appreciative standing ovations throughout the performance.
