Dana Fuchs and her band rocked The Warehouse at FTC in Fairfield, Connecticut, the first night of her new album Love Lives On release tour. As always, Dana Fuchs and her band gave as good as it gets enchanting long-time fans and making new ones.

Dana Fuchs and her band

Dana Fuchs backed by her full band with Jon Diamond on guitar, Brian Gearty on bass, Santo Rizzolo on drums, Matt Wade on keyboards, Tyler Kashenero on trumpet, and Steven Salcedo on sax, opened the album release performance at The Warehouse at FTC (Fairfield Theatre Company) in Fairfield, Connecticut on Friday, May 18, 2018 by engaging the audience by pronouncing "love lives on in our hearts and soul," and asked the audience to "rise up in the name of music and in the name of love" then went fast and furious into the song, Ready To Rise, off the Love Lives On album. Dana’s powerful vocals that can cut sharp as a knife, combined with her seasoned highly personal lyrics brought the audience to its figurative knees.

Next on the set list was Callin’ Angels, another personal song for Dana that she wrote as a tribute to her deceased family members, with a verse for each family member she lost, her sister Donna, brother Don, her brother Dan, her dad and her mom.

Dana told the audience that she recorded the album down in Memphis for two reasons, Otis Redding and Johnny Cash, introducing, Nobody’s Fault But Mine, an Otis Redding song, by stating, "If you’re not happy its nobody’s fault but your own," and made it her own with the addition of trumpet and sax.

Dana introduced her own song, Sittin’ On, assort of her favorite on the release, a sad but redemptive song. Faithful Sinner, about her dad followed, with Dana telling the audience about the story of his hard life and about her growing up giving the song extra poignancy. Dana and the band continued with the song, Sedative with Jon Diamond’s "Bond-like" guitar opening and a wailing sax that gave it a highly polished groove. Sad Solution followed with Dana introducing the song by adding, "I’m at old hippie and I still feel that love is the answer," which was another great song with both trumpet and saxophone segments.

Personal heartache and tragedy are no strangers to Dana Fuchs who has risen above a backstory that includes her older sister Donna’s suicide. She introduced the song Fight My Way as being approached by The Jed Foundation "a nonprofit that exists to protect emotional health and prevent suicide for our nation’s teens and young adults" to shareher sister’s story, stating that we need to take away the sigma of addiction and mental illness so that people can get help. For this highly emotional, personal song, there was just Dana Fuchs and Jon Diamond on stage, both playing guitars as a musical backdrop to Dana’s heartfelt lyrics.

The band rejoined Dana and Jon onstage for the song, Battle Lines, which she described as almost not making the record as Jon did not think it was strong enough, so they kept playing around with it,and hearing it we could not imagine it not being on the album.

Dana’s father was a big Johnny Cash fan, and she introduced the cover of Ring Of Fire by stating that "love hurts like hell, but it’s the thing that keeps us going." With Jon Diamond’s arrangement and Dana’s vocals, Dana’s version of Ring Of Fire was sumptuously gorgeous.

Dana and the band returned to play the highly emotional song, Love Lives On, the title track of the album, about realizing that even after our loved ones have passed on, that love lives on, life lives on. It is a song that once heard will forever be in your hearts. There was one more song to leave the audience on a musical high, followed by a meet and greet with Dana Fuchs, where fans had the opportunity to connect with one of the best Blues Rockers of this generation who continues to prove her mettle as a singer, songwriter, musician, and performer. Bravo!
