I first met Teresa and her fatther (Esteban) when I was living in Arizona in the mid-to-late 1990s, and would often bring my guests to the Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort and Spa at Gainey Ranch to hear Teresa and her father perform, and everyone was always amazed at the skill and the stage presence in one so young.
In July 2012, I had the opportunity to hear Teresa and her father perform at the Wolf Den at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut. It was a memorable evening as over the past decade, Teresa's talent as a musician has grown and her style has matured into a level of sophistication and passion, and it was wonderful to listen and watch Teresa in action clearly doing what she loves.

Later, listening to Rosin Revolver Vol 1 it is hard to believe that this is Teresa's debut release. Skillful, moving, stunning, it is an exquisite 8-track gem. She wrote and performed all of the songs on the release, which is 45 minutes of listening pleasure. Although Teresa's style is often described as Classical Avant-Garde or Jazzy New Age, I call it simply enchanting.
She describes her experience working on the Rosin Revolver project as, "It has been a great adventure working on Rosin Revolver Vol. 1. It was treated with the freedom of expression, and I hope you find joy in listening." I did.
The release opens with the track Zephyr where Teresa begins by lightly plucking at the violin strings as an intro before plunging and expansively playing. Teresa sets out and succeeds in engaging the listener from the first track, Zephyr, to the last, The Huntress, and invites you to sit back, relax, listen, and let your mind wander.
In between, there are many wonderful songs including Calliope's Call, which has varying tempos that is like a New Age siren's call; The Spinners with its underlying rhythms and hypnotic, mystical feel to it; Swallows in Space; and White Rabbit Moon, which has an almost dreamlike quality and may be one of my favorite songs on the release. Other nice tracks include Oracle, Halcyon Days, and the closing track, The Huntress. Teresa's use of the cello to echo a human voice captures the listener's attention, and engages as though in a conversation.
If you have the opportunity to catch Teresa Joy Paul in concert, do so, you will not be disappointed. In the meantime, enjoy Rosin Revolver Vol 1 - A Teresa Joy Paul Project.
