Jane Monheit - Home
was released on the Emarcy/Universal
label and is the tenth release in the storied career of the Grammy nominated
jazz vocalist. The release Home
provided Jane with the outlet to return to her jazz roots where she gives new
life, through her own interpretations, to jazz standards that she admired. Jane
also wanted to record a release in the same manner as she performs for her
audiences around the world, with a small, tight, intimate band. The combination
of her interpretations accompanied by her traveling band results in one of her
most memorable releases to date. To learn more about Jane Monheit read Jane

The release Home,
as Jane commented "Is a project that I've been thinking about for a long
time...an album of songs and a group of musicians that are deeply important to
me...this release is clearly me, from the heart." She opens the release with the
treasured up-tempo song A Shine on Your
Shoes (Arthur Schwartz/Howard Dietz) where she puts her mark on the
arrangement with sensational improvisational scat to accompany her amazing
vocals. Her second track is There's a
Small Hotel (Rodgers/Hart) where her sexy vocals draw the accompanying
trumpet and piano to new heights of passion.
The release continues with This is Always (Harry James) a sultry track where Jane and the band
create an expressive and touching arrangement. Tonight You Belong to Me (Billy Rose/Lee David) is a duet with John
Pizzarelli; Look For the Silver Lining
is the perfect arrangement for Jane's scat, while Jane's interpretation of the
ballad I'll Be Around (Alec
Wilder/William Engvick) is pure magic. The track Everything I've Got Belongs to You (Rodgers/Hart) is an amusing
arrangement where Jane and violinist Mark O'Connor create a lighthearted sound.
The track It's Only
Smoke, the only non-standard on the release, is a moving and poignant track
where Jane is accompanied by Peter Eldridge on vocals, whom she studied under
at the Manhattan School of Music. Other tracks include The Eagle and Me (Harburg/Arlen), I Didn't Know About You / All Too Soon (Duke Ellington), Isn't It a Lovely Day (Irving Berlin),
and the release closes with While We're
Young (Perry Como).
