Ellen, Mourning This Morning, is easily Jade Ell's best work to
date. This poignant, highly personal release with emotionally charged lyrics
sung as only Jade can deliver, is a personal best, a tribute to her heritage.

Jade, I would like to congratulate you on your new
release Ellen, Mourning This Morning.
This album really shows another dimension of your talent. You wrote all of
the 14 songs, as well as played many of the instruments on the album. Tell me
a little about your inspiration for the album. What is the significance of
the date April 14th?

April 14th was
day that my mother died, and when I found out about her death it was
overwhelming, and I needed to put my feelings into words. The album was my
way to be able to ask the questions, even if I could not get the answers. I
wrote the song, April 14th, as my way of coping.
I was in the Unites States,
playing in New York
that really started the process, it was a healing time for me, and when I
came back home, I needed to process it.

The cover art on this special tribute album is the
icing on the cake so to speak. What is the significance of the photographs
and postcard used?

When I was going through my
mother's things, I found all these wonderful old photographs and even tools
from 1764. The house was filled with really old things passed from generation
to generation from the people who lived in the house; nothing was ever thrown
out.
The photographs on the
cover are of my grandmother, Ellen, as a young girl, and the house where she
lived. Although I had never met my grandmother and the other people in the
photographs, when I looked at their faces and their eyes, it was if they
wanted me to tell their stories.

What else did you find?

There were also old
Christmas music boxes sent from relatives in the United States, old bells used on
the horses, even locks and keys, which I used on the album. I found many
letters sent to Sweden
from Florida, and even postcards from New York sent by my father's cousins who had immigrated
to the United States.
I incorporated the spirit
of what I found on the track, Guilty as Charged, where I rustled old
letters to add audio interest making the connection from the past to the
present.

Rather like collecting "souvenirs" from a memorable
trip, which this journey of the heart indeed was, and then using them in
everyday life as a way to continue our memory.

Yes, it really was. I also
found old clothes, old hats, and gloves, and I wanted to use them during my
performance at my album release gig in Stockholm.
I dressed in clothing from 1870, which was a very interesting experience and
helped me get into the spirit of the times.

What is next?

I am writing. I am always
writing actually, and have written about half of my next album, which is
going to be lighter, very playful, but recognizable, and a little quirkier. I
have new ideas popping up all the time. I found an old photograph of the
American silent screen actress Pearl White wearing a beret, which reminded me
of myself, and it inspired me to write the song, Miss Pearl White, which will be on my next release.
I am also performing in Sweden and Denmark,
and will be going on tour throughout Europe.
I am also working on new videos.
