We recently "discovered" a
fabulous Brazilian gourmet confectionary named Soul Sweet
Boutique located in Newark and Elizabeth, New
Jersey, which also sells online and ships throughout
the United States. Owned by Thatiana Rangel, Soul
Sweet Boutique carries a wide selection of traditional Brazilian
desserts along with modern sweets to tempt your palate. Since the
pandemic curtailed our annual trips to Brazil, in addition to
missing our "family" and friends, we missed the sweets of Brazil
and were thrilled to find Soul Sweet Boutique.

Originally from Goiâna,
in the state of Goiás, Brazil, owner Thatiana Rangel brings the delectable and
exotic gourmet sweets of Brazil to her 2 shops in New Jersey, in Newark,
and at The Mills at Jersey Gardens in Elizabeth. Growing up in
Brazil, she watched her grandmother, her godmother, and her aunts make
delicious sweets and learned to appreciate food. Always an entrepreneur, in
2019, Thatiana decided to combine her passion and love of food with her energy
and passion for people and opened Soul Sweet Boutique to provide the community
with wonderful gourmet confections of Brazil. In 2020, she started shipping her
amazing confections throughout the United States.
(Debra) Having lived in Brazil,
one of my earliest sweet memories was the first time that I had brigadeiros,
which are delectable chocolate confections that are hand-rolled into balls then
rolled in chocolate sprinkles and go well beyond fudge into the stratosphere
for chocoholics. I soon learned that brigadeiros are an important part
of birthdays, weddings, and other celebrations. A party would simply not be a
party without brigadeiros.

In addition to Soul Sweet
Boutique's traditional brigadeiros, they also make Chocolate
Brigadeiro Gourmet Cake in a Jar. For this tasty confection, they
layer brigadeiro with chocolate cake and present it in a small jar
making it the perfect party or picnic potable, or whenever you need a little
pick-me-up.
Other delicious gourmet Cakes in a
Jar include Red Velvet, described on the label as layers of crimson
cocoa cake and their signature creamy icing, and Strawberry O Crème,
described as homemade strawberry jelly made from fresh fruit spread between
layers of vanilla cake and their signature cream. We had all three cakes
shipped to us, and they were equally delicious.

In addition to Cakes in a Jar, Soul
Sweet Boutique also sells Cheesecake in a Jar, Cookies in a Jar,
and many Brazilian specialties including Pão de Mel (Honey
Cake), Cocadas, and Meringue Kisses (called sospiros
"sighs" in Portuguese).

On Saturday, April 10, 2021, we visited
Soul Sweet Boutique in Newark and met with Thatiana Rangel. Passionate about
Soul Sweet Boutique, on her website she writes, "I don't want customers to
enjoy our sweets just because they are delicious, I want them to feel special."
Meeting with Thatiana, her enthusiasm and passion were readily apparent as she
welcomed each person to her charming and attractive shop and café and described
the luscious sweets beckoning behind the sparkling display cases.

Brigadeiros and decadently
rich truffles with exotic flavors and names like Romeo + Juliet
(parmesan cheese and guava), Dark Chocolate Fig, which was a fig stuffed
with a creamy center and dipped in dark chocolate ganache, Sweet Corn,
and Ninho, to name but a few, that drew our attention.

Also visually appealing was the
pile of cocadas (a sweet made of sweetened condensed milk and
coconut) displayed under a glass dome, stunning bolos (cakes), pudims
(puddings) and mousses that competed for our attention. We also enjoyed
watching the Soul Sweet Boutique team in action behind the glass kitchen wall as
they created their specialty desserts.

you, and the best part is that they ship throughout the United States, so if a
trip to Newark or Elizabeth is not in your immediate plans, you can still enjoy
these luscious Brazilian desserts.

open daily and in addition to its delicious desserts, they also serve breakfast
and lunch. In addition to the Newark location, Soul Sweet Boutique has a kiosk
at The Mills at Jersey Gardens.
