Wild Moon Lavender Liqueur - Hartford Flavor Company
We love to use botanicals in our cocktail and culinary creations and were delighted when we "discovered" Wild Moon Lavender Liqueur created by Creatrix and Infusionary Lelaneia Dubay, owner of the woman-owned distillery Hartford Flavor Company based in Hartford, Connecticut. Their luscious Wild Moon Lavender Liqueur is perfect to serve chilled or over ice, and when used in cocktail or culinary recipes adds another layer of flavor that makes the recipes uniquely tasty.

Wild Moon Lavender Liqueur - Hartford Flavor Company

Botanicals add so much flavor to recipes that we always have some botanical, herb, and spice simple syrups, vinegars, shrubs, and oils brewing in our kitchen to use in both cocktail and culinary recipes. When we learned about what Lelaneia Dubay was doing at Hartford Flavor Company with her line of Wild Moon Liqueurs, we were intrigued and knew we had found a kindred spirit. Wild Moon Liqueurs inspired line of liqueurs include Cucumber, Lime, Cranberry, Lavender, Birch, Chai Spice, Sumac, 7 Lemon, Sage, Roasted Dandelion Root, and Rose. Just imagine the possibilities for creative cocktails and for culinary uses. In addition to the Wild Moon Lavender Liqueur, we also tried their Wild Moon Rose Liqueur. (Read about Wild Moon Rose Liqueur in Luxury Experience: Wild Moon Rose Liqueur)

Product and Bottle Information: Wild Moon Lavender Liqueur, 20% alcohol by volume/40 proof. Elegantly packaged in 750-ml ($38.00), 375-ml ($22.00), and 100-ml bottles. The bottle notes that the Wild Moon Lavender Liqueur is "all natural and botanically infused. Wild Moon Liqueurs from Hartford Flavor Company are hand crafted in small batches. Our line of all-natural botanical liqueurs is made with high-quality, locally sourced ingredients that are gluten free and chemical free. Handcrafted and Bottled in Hartford, Connecticut." Each bottle notes its batch number and bottle number, making the bottles very special for collectors and connoisseurs; ours was batch number 1L3, bottle number 59.

Tasting Notes: The color is a delicate light golden color, and the taste is delectably smooth with the essence of lavender on the nose and on the palate. Made with natural sugar cane juice the Wild Moon Lavender Liqueur has a natural sweetness and a lovely finish.

Luxury Experience was "in the kitchen and behind the bar®" creating incredibly special handcrafted cocktails and a culinary recipe to tempt your palate and inspire your own creations using Wild Moon Lavender Liqueur.

Luxury Experience - Lavender & Lace is frothy perfection in a glass. We loved the sophisticated look of this cocktail in our vintage hollow-stem champagne coupe however you can also use a Martini glass. We made the cocktail by combining Wild Moon Lavender Liqueur, Noilly Prat Extra Dry Vermouth, freshly squeezed white grapefruit juice, Pleasant Valley Lavender Honey, and Fee Brothers Fee Foam. The Fee Foam gives the cocktail a lush, foamy "lace" and the dried lavender sprinkled on top gives the cocktail its polish. As the Wild Moon Liqueur only has 20% alcohol by volume, and Noilly Prat Extra Dry Vermouth only has 18% alcohol by volume, it is a lovely lower alcohol cocktail.

The Culinary Recipe

Luxury Experience - Lavender Tapioca Brulee - photo by Luxury Experience

Wild Moon Lavender Liqueur is perfect in culinary recipes and Luxury Experience - Lavender Tapioca Brûlée is a delectable twist on tapioca pudding and crème brûlée. This tasty dessert gets its luscious lavender essence from the Wild Moon Lavender Liqueur, dried lavender infused milk, and lavender sugar for the brûlée.

Luxury Experience - Lavender Tapioca Brûlée
Yield: 6 servings

Tapioca Ingredients

1
14-Oz Can
Sweetened Condensed Milk
3
Cans
Whole Milk
1
Large
Egg, beaten
0.16
Teaspoon
Pink Himalayan Salt
0.33
Cup
Minute Brand Tapioca
1
Teaspoon
Dried Lavender
1
Ounce

Lavender Sugar Ingredients

1
Teaspoon
Dried Lavender
0.50
Cup
Sugar

Method for the Tapioca: In a medium saucepan, add the sweetened condensed milk, then fill the can 3 times with whole milk, and then add the salt, beaten egg, tapioca, and dried lavender. Stir to combine. Let sit for 5 minutes. Cook the tapioca over medium heat until boiling. Remove from heat. Let sit 20 minutes then add the 1-ounce of Wild Moon Lavender Liqueur. Stir to combine then divide into 6 serving bowls and chill for several hours or overnight.

Method for the Lavender Sugar for the Brûlée: Grind the dried lavender in a coffee grinder or with a pestle. Add the sugar and mix them together.

Method for the Brûlée: Spoon 1 tablespoon (or more) of the lavender sugar across each of the tapiocas. To create the brûlée, you can see a kitchen torch or place under a broiler under a low broil setting.

Note: The kitchen torch allows you more control as you move the torch across the top of the sugared tapioca to create the golden-brown crust. If you use the oven broil method, you will need to use oven-proof bakeware and carefully watch the tapioca, so it does not burn. Bon Appetit!

Until next time, cheers, its cocktail time!

About Wild Moon Liqueurs

Creatrix and Infusionary Lelaneia Dubay is the creative force behind the woman-owned distillery, Hartford Flavor Company, which launched in March 2015. A master Landscape Designer, artist, herbalist, home cook, and cocktailian, Lelaneia brings all her passions to her creations for Hartford Flavor Company and Wild Moon Liqueurs.

Inspired at the age of 13 to always make and eat good food, she learned how to cook, and now eats only organic food. She and her husband Tom started making Cranberry Liqueur at home which they gave as gifts for family and friends who loved it. Since their Cranberry Liqueur was so well loved, she branched out into making Lavender, Rose, Chai Spice, and Birch Liqueurs, which like the original cranberry, were big hits, and after hosting a party at their home in 2013, they thought they were on to something, and it was the inspiration for launching Hartford Flavor Company and Wild Moon Liqueurs.

Wild Moon Liqueurs inspired line of liqueurs include: Cucumber, Rose, Lime, Cranberry, Lavender, Birch, Chai Spice, Sumac, 7 Lemon, Sage, and Roasted Dandelion Root. Just imagine the possibilities for creative cocktails and for culinary uses.

Under the Hartford Flavor Company label they produce two vodkas, Organic Vodka and Vanilla Vodka infused with real Tahitian and Madagascar vanilla beans.

Hartford Flavor Company is open Monday through Friday from 12:00 pm until 5:00 pm, and Saturday from 12:00 pm until 6:00 pm. They are closed on Sunday.

Tours of their tasting room, Diana's Lair is open for tours Fridays from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm, and on Saturdays from 1:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Reservations only.
