Owner Joseph DeCristofaro brings a delectable taste of The Hamptons to Manhattan with his new restaurant, Old Stove Pub located at 10761 1st Avenue between 59th and 60th Streets. As the Old Stove Pub in Sagaponack, New York has been a Hamptons favorite for locals and visitors alike since it was established in 1967, Owner Joseph DeCristofaro decided it was the perfect time to bring its cuisine and gracious hospitality to Manhattan by opening a second Old Stove Pub in midtown.

Old Stove Pub NYC

We had dinner at the recently opened Old Stove Pub on Thursday, November 17, 2022, where the ambience was one of gracious hospitality. The restaurant is intimate and welcoming with its expansive wall of windows, pickled wood floors, black bent-wood chairs flank tables elegantly dressed in double-draped linens, fresh flowers in small vases grace the tables, and blue votive candles or high-top black shade candlesticks softly illuminate the diners. Photographs of New York City adorn the white brick walls, and a tiered ceiling adds architectural interest and appeal. Striped upholstered and black leather banquettes with nubby pillows line a few of the walls for extra comfortable seating.

Wines are offered by the glass as well as by the bottle with a nice selection across the board from moderate wines to more expensive, and there is an interesting, well-crafted cocktail menu. The Old Stove Pub menu is divided into Starters, Raw Bar, Entrees, Sauces, and Sides for Sharing, with a vast selection of each to appeal to diverse palates. A few examples from the Starters section include Saganaki, a Greek cheese baked in casserole with olive oil and lemon served with warm pita; Fresh Truffle Burrata served with grilled peaches, house salad, cherry tomatoes, balsamic glaze; Onion Soup, traditional homemade onion soup, veal stock with melted cheese; and Steamed Mussels with white wine, garlic, scallions, cherry tomatoes, mushrooms, and paprika.

A few examples from the Raw Bar section include Crab Cocktail with jumbo lump crab, frisée salad served with mustard mayo and cocktail sauce; Salmon Tartare with capers, shallots, chives, mustard, baby mache and garlic crostini; Fresh Clams and Fresh Oysters, and more.

The Entrée section is a diverse offering that will appeal to Vegetarians with their Stuffed Eggplant with Basmati rice, lentils, zucchini, tomatoes, red peppers, feta cheese, tzatziki, and tahini sauce. There are also great Sides for Sharing that include a Cauliflower Gratin, Sautéed Brussel Sprouts, Creamed Spinach, Potatoes a la Old Stove Pub, Sautéed Spinach, Sautéed Mushrooms, Broccoli Rabe, French Fries, Mashed Potatoes, Hash Browns, and Basmati Rice.

For Seafood and Shellfish Lovers there are Local Sea Scallops, Pan Roasted Atlantic Salmon, Fresh Branzino, Jumbo Prawns, and Seafood Pasta. For those who prefer Chicken or Meat there is Roasted Chicken, Old Stove Pub Burger, Skirt Steak, Australian Lamb Chops, a 14-ounce Rib Eye Boneless Prime, a 10-ounce Prime Filet Mignon, and larger steaks for sharing, their 20-ounce Sagaponack Steak (for 2), and their 40-ounce Tomahawk Steak (for 2).

Amuse
Bruschetta with Cannellini Beans

Our server started our dining experience with an amuse of Bruschetta with Cannellini Beans, which was a delicious introduction to their culinary style. We continued with two of their Starters, the Calamari, and the Jumbo Lump Crab Cake. The Calamari was lightly fried and accompanied by two tasty sauces, a Chipotle Mayo, and a Marinara Sauce, topped with a House Salad, and garnished with generous lemon wedges. The chef had a perfect touch with the calamari batter as they were golden brown, light, tender, and totally delectable.

The Jumbo Lump Crab Cake was baked jumbo lump crab crowned with pea shoots and beautifully presented on a bed of whole grain mustard and a crisscross pattern of balsamic glaze. If the crab was any fresher, we would have needed to eat it while still on the fishing boat.

For our Entrees, we selected the Pan Roasted Atlantic Salmon and the Rib Eye Boneless Prime. The salmon was cooked to our specification of medium rare and elegantly presented on a bed of tiny organic lentils, baby spinach, diced zucchini, carrots, celery, with rings of grain mustard cream sauce and basil oil. This dish really sang out with its mélange of flavors to complement the crispy skin salmon.

The Rib Eye Boneless Prime was 14-ounces of tender, mouthwatering beef perfectly cooked to medium rare and topped with Blue Cheese Butter that melted into the meat and was sensational. We paired the Salmon and the Rib Eye by sharing a side of Potatoes a la Old Stove, which were crispy potatoes wedges sprinkled with paprika.

The restaurant has an excellent dessert menu, and we ended our dining experience at the Old Stove Pub on a sweet note by sharing the Homemade Baklava made with filo, almonds, and honey syrup. A few of the other interesting desserts on the menu included the Pavlova made with meringue, macerated strawberries, whipped cream, Panna Cotta, Crème Brûlée, and NY Cheesecake topped with berry coulis and whipped cream, providing us with another reason to return. The Old Stove Pub in NYC is an intimate restaurant with a comfortable ambience, excellent cuisine, and gracious and attentive service that earmark it for success. Old Stove Pub, welcome to Manhattan!
