Rhythm City was released on the Silverman Brothers’ Autumn Hill Records label.

Rhythm City is a powerhouse of a release with a trio of St. Louis Jazz legends, Ptah Williams, Larry Kornfeld, and Rob Silverman, with an added measure of talented excellence with special guests Eric Marienthal, Randy Brecker, and Rob Silverman’s brother, Michael Silverman, whom I have had the pleasure of listening to and reviewing on other major Jazz album releases.

Interesting to note, Luxury Experience has reviewed many releases Michael Silverman, Rob Silverman, Eric Marienthal, and Randy Brecker play on. We reviewed Michael Silverman’s debut instrumental release Human Spirit featuring Jeff Lorber, Rob Silverman, Eric Marienthal, Jimmy Haslip, and others. Eric Marienthal also played on Jeff Lorber Fusion – Hacienda, Jeff Lorber Fusion – Galaxy , Jeff Lorber Fusion – Now is the Time and Chuck Loeb – Between 2 Worlds, and Randy Brecker played on Eliane Elias – Dance Of Time.

The self-titled debut Rhythm City release opens with the track Chameleon where Rob Silverman’s drums set the pace as the band brings on the funk with beautifully arranged and orchestrated trumpet and horns by Erin Marienthal and Randy Brecker and Ptah Williams’ sparkling piano.

Next up is Just Like Us that shows the talent of this amazingly cohesive group. Ptah Williams works his magic on the piano on the gorgeous track Little Sunflower that runs 11:12 minutes and is a dynamo. The play list continues with the well-crafted Nature Boy, followed by Pusherman an exciting track with Latin rhythms. The band shifts gears and takes it down a notch on the nice and slow intro of Spain then explodes into an exciting an engaging rhythm.

Virgo Rising is the longest track on this stellar release running 13:42 minutes and is so well-crafted that I wanted to keep hitting the replay button. The release deftly closes with the up-tempo Well You Needn’t. Rhythm City is an amazing release by an incredible trio and well-chosen special guests that complement and complete this debut release. With such an excellent debut, I cannot wait to see what they create for a sophomore album. Bravo!

Until next time, keep enjoying the music!
