Fairmont Washington, D.C., Georgetown

We stayed at the Fairmont Washington, DC, Georgetown in July 2018 and were immediately impressed with the hotel and the staff from the moment that we drove up to the entrance. Service, as would be expected, was of the utmost highest level. The attractive ambience was elegant, yet contemporary and comfortable, with artistic geometric gold sculptures cascading from the ceiling, contemporary art on the walls, fresh flowers and large potted plants throughout the marble lobby with inviting sitting areas designed for conversation, and a welcoming lobby bar to enjoy cocktails and light bites, as well as Modern Afternoon Tea. The attractive rose-lined courtyard with its interesting water feature provided a comfortable outdoor space to relax under the shade of a sun umbrella or for guests looking to dine al fresco.

It is the little details that often times pack the most punch, because when a hotel goes to great lengths with small things you know that they will excel at big ones. One of the small details that made a big impression on us was that three times per day the hotel changed the welcome mat with "Good Morning," "Good Afternoon" and "Good Evening" written in script; a small detail perhaps, but a gracious one.

The Gold Floor

Go for the Gold, its not just an Olympic term, it can also be used to describe Fairmont’s Gold Floor, which provides extra privacy and amenities, and is desirable for business travelers, small groups, and for guests looking for a more intimate and personalized hotel experience.

Fairmont Washington DC, Georgetown - Gold Guest Room

Gold Floor Guest Room

We stayed onthe Gold Floor in an attractive, spacious room with a king bed beautifully dressed in pristine high-quality linens, a plethora of pillows, and a pretty pink accent bolster to add a pop of color. As bedtime readers, we especially appreciated the built-in reading lights in the creamy tufted and studded leather headboard. A dark leather bench graced the foot of the bed, and nightstands with large lamps flanked the sides of the bed. Contemporary artwork graced the walls alongwith two full-length mirrors. An aubergine velvet sofa with decorative pillows provided a cozy place to curl up and read a book or read one of the many in-room magazines placed on a side table or watch the large flatscreen television. A round table and chairs was perfect for in-room dining or to useas a spacious workplace for business travelers.

The large marble bathroom featured a large walk-in shower with rainshower-head as well asa hand-held shower-head. Thoughtful amenities included a ring holder, scale, and hairdryer, and a diverse assortment of specially created Le Labo Rose 31 toiletries. Always looking to provide a little something extra to bring a smileto their guests, in addition to listing the ingredients on the back of the toiletry bottles, there were also cute little sayings on each of them.

Attention to guests’ possible needs is something that the Fairmont does very well, and other in-room amenities included an iron and ironing board, robes and slippers, safe, umbrella, and flashlight in the large closet.

Another perk of the Gold Floor was their complimentary European breakfast served in the attractive Gold Floor Lounge with hot and cold items, which changed daily during ourstay. A few of the many offerings included a selection of fresh berries, melons, and fruit, a selection of yogurt, various types of cereal, a diverse selection of sliced breads, bagels, rolls, muffins, and pastries, different egg preparations, pancakes, sausages, bacon, and breakfast potatoes. Coffee, espresso, a selection of teas, juices, waters, and sodas, completed the breakfast offerings.

Gold Floor Evening Selection

In the afternoon, the Gold Floor Lounge offered a selection of cookies, pastries, and snacks, as little pick-me-ups. In the evening, there were complimentary hot and cold offerings, which varied nightly during our stay. A few of the items included a cheese platter with fresh strawberries and grapes, a charcuterie platter, jumbo shrimp, smoked salmon toasts, grilled chicken skewers, salads, pastas, as well as complimentary soft drinks, and wine and a selection of spirits available on an honor basis for a charge back to guests’ rooms.

BeeTini

Fairmont goes to great lengths to distinguish their properties, and the Fairmont Washington, DC, Georgetown, is a stand out with their rooftop bee hives, which they have kept since 2009. Maintained by three in-house beekeepers, the three hives with Italian bees produce about 150 pounds of honey each year, which the chefs use in some of their recipes including Juniper’s signature cocktail, the BeeTini, and their Honey Walnut Bread, both of which we enjoyed during our dinnerat Juniper.

Balance Gym

After spending a rainy Saturday spent museum-hopping, we went to the Balance Gym to soak in the whirlpool, swam laps in the salt-water pool, followed by steam and sauna sessions. Although we had enough exercise walking and exploring the sites of Washington, DC, the well-equipped gym also offered a diverse selection of classes including CrossFit, Zumba, Yoga, Barre, Pilates, Spin, Boxing and much more to appeal to a wide-range of fitness enthusiasts.

With its desirable location and close proximity to many of Washington, DC’s historic sites and attractions, the Fairmont Washington, DC, Georgetown is the perfect "home-away-from-home" for business or leisure travelers.
