Add in some fine harmonica by bandleader, Ernie Pinata, some saucy lyrics, and you have a modern Blues album worth giving many a listen. Delta Wires – Born In Oakland was produced by Executive Producer Anthony "Little Tony" Calabrese, with Ernie Pinata, Tom Gerrits, and Tony Huszar, and co-produced, recorded and mixed by Steve Johnson, Jr. on the Mud Slide Records label.

Founded 30 years ago, the Delta Wires have a vibrant, energetic, cohesively tight sound that comes from playing together for so long, that the notes flow effortlessly. Born in Oakland is the band’s 7^th release.

The 10-track release opens with Sunny Day, written by Richard Healy, Ernie Pinata, Tom Gerrits, and Tony Huszar, with horn arrangements by David Bowman, with a blazing horn intro that sets the tone and pace for the rest of the release.

The band segues into some fine Swing Blues, with the track, Fine And Healthy Thing, a 1955 Billy "The Kid" Emerson song, with horn arrangement by David Bowman, with fun, saucy lyrics. Put your dancing shoes on for this song.

If you have not already had one, the track Vacation written by Ernie Pinata, Richard Healy, and Tom Gerrits, with horn arrangement by Pinata and Orsetti, is sure to resonate soundly with its lyrics, "I’m tired of working, I need a vacation, I’m tired of working, I need a vacation, I’m tired of getting up early, I need me some time off … sick of the traffic, living on the freeway …" (Click to listen to the track Vacation: https://youtu.be/z27ZV5PEyu8)

Next in the play list is the track, Your Eyes, a slow and sultry piece written by Pinata, Healy, and Huszar, with horn arrangement by David Bowman, followed by Days Of The Week, written by Pinata, Healy, Gerrits, with horn arrangement by Gibson and Gerry Jonutz, which picks up the pace.

Devil’s In My Headset, written by Ernie Pinata, Richard Healy, and Tom Gerrits, with horn arrangement by David Bowman and John Christensen, opens with Richard Healy working his magic on the guitar for the intro.

Other tracks include Fun Time written by Ernie Pinata, Richard Healy, and Tom Gerrits, complete with wailing horns arranged by Orsetti, and I Don’t Care, a cover written by Byrd with arrangement by Dennis Dell’Aqua, which has a Zydeco flavor.

The band gets into Funk Blues and fully does justice to saxophonist Alfred "Pee Wee" Ellis’ and Buddy Hobgood’s instrumental piece, In The Middle, with arrangement by the Delta Wires.

The release closes strongly with the Pinata, Healy, Gerrits song, All I Have To Give, with horn arrangement by Gibson and Bowman. Hit the play button again, as once around it not enough for this stellar Blues release.
