Real estate in the Hamptons is all about location, and the 90-room
attractive Southampton Inn located
in Southampton, Long Island, New York
definitely has a great location. Nestled on 5-acres in the heart of Southampton,
guests can lounge by the swimming pool, walk to nearby museums, art galleries,
shopping, and excellent restaurants, and drive to the pristine Coopers
Beach, rated as the best beach in America in
2010 by "Dr. Beach."
Edward and I stayed at the Southampton
Inn, a landmark with its distinctive yellow and blue Tudor style architecture in
January 2011, where the ambience was inviting, and the staff made guests feel
at home. We especially enjoyed relaxing in the cozy Library where a fire in the
fireplace beckoned invitingly. Well-placed sofas and chairs, and round tables
and chairs, created intimate seating areas to read the newspapers, magazines,
one of the many books that line the shelves, or indulge in a board game or two.
Large potted ferns and other plants added interest to the sun-filled room, as
did the interesting artwork that graced the walls.

Southampton Inn in the winter
In the warmer months, and for
special events, the hotel has an excellent restaurant, OSO Restaurant, which
received a 2010 Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator for their wine
collection. During the winter, the hotel serves a complimentary continental
breakfast in the Library, where we began each morning with steaming cups of
coffee, glasses of juice, and large, fresh, toasted bagels with cream cheese.

Lounge
Our spacious guestroom
featured a king Tempur-Pedic® bed dressed with a white duvet, white square
pillows, and a sage green terry decorative pillow, with a white wood bench at
the foot of the bed, and white nightstands with lamps with zebra print
lampshades on either side of the bed.

Guestroom
Paintings graced the walls, a
large mirror hung on the wall over a chest of drawers, which had an attractive
cranberry lamp, and there was an armoire with a television and a
mini-refrigerator discretely hidden inside.
There was a clothes armoire
and a cream loveseat with celadon decorative pillows that could be opened into
an additional bed. The bathroom featured a classic black and white tile floor, a
white pedestal sink, toilet, a combination tub, hairdryer, full-length mirror, and
Gilchrist & Soames amenities.
Other hotel amenities included
complimentary WI-FI Wireless Internet, a Business Center,
and a Games Room. Summer guests will appreciate the outdoor heated swimming
pool, tennis court, shuffleboard court, lawn games, and the complimentary
shuttle service to Coopers Beach.

Coopers Beach
Pet-friendly, of the hotel's
90-rooms, there are 14-rooms for guests who prefer to travel with their
4-legged friends, and there is an adorable black cat named Bear who is the
hotel mascot and acts as the welcoming committee in the Library, with whom
Edward and I quickly made friends.

Library
What we especially enjoyed
was the welcoming atmosphere and the hotel's proximity to the village where we
could walk to shopping, a movie theatre, museums, and restaurants, which is
something especially important in the summer when the traffic is often heavy. The
hotel is warm and inviting and is like having a weekend house in Southampton with the staff acting as fairy Godmothers to grant
guests' special requests.
