When temperatures soared into the 90s in the northeast, we headed to Mohegan Sun Hotel in Uncasville, Connecticut where the climate is perfect in any season. The luxury hotel resort and casino has a diverse selection of restaurants, Elemis Spa and Salon, swimming pool, fitness center, luxury shops, three casinos, and wonderful entertainment, so there is something to occupy your day and evening without ever stepping outside unless you want to relax on the large terrace.
Created in 1996 by the Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut, the Mohegan Sun complex is architecturally stunning with the landscape and neighboring water reflected on the glass tower creating a mirror image.

Indoors, there are soaring tree branches that draw the eyes upwards, and gleaming highly polished artisan woods, however it is the 55-foot Taughannick Falls and soaring glass sculpture created by the American artist Dale Chihuly in 2001 that makes the definitive statement.

The 34-story luxury hotel has 1,200 luxurious, spacious, and well-appointed guestrooms and suites. We stayed at the hotel in July 2012 and our spacious guest room featured a king bed dressed with a white coverlet, taupe throw, navy bolster, and white shams trimmed with navy, and an Art Deco wood headboard. Nightstands flanked either side of the bed.
Two matching navy velvet chairs flanked the desk that held a nice selection of area magazines, and a comfortable upholstered navy checked chair with matching ottoman beckoned from the opposite corner of the room. A large round mirror hung over the desk, colorful paintings graced the walls and a live philodendron plant on a round table near the window added a homey appeal to the room.
In-room amenities included complimentary hi-speed Internet access, coffeemaker with assorted teas and coffees set on an Art Deco chest, mini-bar, a large flatscreen television, and complimentary newspapers delivered to our door each morning. Amenities continued in the closet, which held an iron, ironing board, and a safe.
The spacious marble bathroom featured beautifully crafted small tiles on the wall surrounding the large mirror hung over the wide vanity that reflected nature done in indigo and green with copper and gold stripes, and a decorative tile design on the floor. The room had a combination shower and tub, and a separate enclosed toilet. Bathroom amenities included a shaving mirror, hairdryer, and a selection of toiletries.
We made the most of our stay at the Mohegan Sun Hotel by attending a Stevie Nicks concert in the 10,000 seat Mohegan Sun Arena the first night of our stay. Stevie Nicks rocked the house for a memorable performance.

Following the concert, we had a delectable late night dinner at Bobby Flay's restaurant, Bar Americain Mohegan Sun. Two of the highlights of our dinner were the Porterhouse Lamb Chops with Mustard Barbecue Sauce and Sweet Potato Gratin, and the Steamed Lobster, with Roasted Lemon Butter, and Fries Americain served with Smoked Red Pepper Mayonnaise, a dish for which the restaurant is famous.

A variety of entertainment abounds at Mohegan Sun, on Thursdays and Saturdays during the summer months beginning at 9:00 pm there is a DJ spinning music outside at GLO at the Pool, and we enjoyed the atmosphere before heading to our room to call it a night.
The next day we heard a short concert by classical guitarist Esteban and his daughter, violinist Teresa Paul, spent time in the hot tub, had a leisurely swim in the pool, and then relaxed outdoors on lounge chairs and enjoyed a nice nap in the sun to prepare us for another late night.

In the evening, we had a wonderful dinner at Ballo Italian Restaurant and Social Club where Chef Matthew Adler is the talent in the kitchen. A few of the highlights of our dinner included the Grilled Veal Chop served with fig and goat cheese polenta and balsamic dressed arugula, and the Swordfish Livornaise presented on a bed of escarole, with chick peas, black olives, and tomato sauce.

Following our dinner, we went to hear Esteban and Teresa Paul perform with Esteban's full band in the Wolf Den located in the Casino of the Earth, which provided us with another very nice evening of musical entertainment.

After the concert, we ventured off to try our luck at the three casinos: Casino of the Earth, Casino of the Sky, and Casino of the Wind, followed by browsing in the diverse selection of luxury shops.
