The Inn at Great Neck located on the fabled Coast Gold of Long Island, in Great Neck, New York, is an intimate, stunning little gem of a hotel where Art Deco style, luxury amenities, and its close proximity to New York, make this 85-room and suite hotel perfect for the business or leisure traveler.
The lobby sets the tone with Art Deco décor and hand-painted murals on the walls, and continues with professional, personalized service at the reception desk. Edward and I stayed at the Inn at Great Neck in April 2010, and were impressed with the myriad of bells and whistles that this small hotel provides for the luxury traveler from opulently decorated guestrooms, excellent restaurant, well-equipped business center, high-speed complimentary WI-FI, and a state-of-the-art exercise room.

The giraffe is the mascot and symbol of the town of Great Neck and the Giraffe Room Lounge and Restaurant features whimsical giraffes at the entrance, and an international menu by Executive Chef Naim Bellan.

A dramatic and impressive collection of Art Deco paintings in gold frames grace the walls of the intimate restaurant and colored art glass sconces softly illuminate and add visual appeal. Diagonal glass enclosed wine racks act as room dividers, as well as add another level of visual appeal to the wood paneled walls. Black wood chairs with burgundy upholstery flank tables set with champagne tablecloths, and dark floral tapestry banquettes with corner niche seating are perfect for cozy tête-à-tête dining.

Edward and I had dinner at the Giraffe Room Lounge and Restaurant, where one of the highlights included lump crab stuffed jumbo shrimp. This very tasty course was a hearty portion of lump crab mixed with minced red peppers, onions, and fresh herbs stuffed into jumbo shrimp, presented on a bed of rice, with a rich pool of roasted cherry tomato winecsauce, and garnished with tender pencil thin grilled asparagus to herald the spring asparagus season.

Our sumptuously appointed spacious corner guestroom featured a king bed dressed with a gold duvet, gold and green stripe bed skirt, celadon green decorative pillows, and a plethora of inviting pillows against the high wood headboard. Nightstands on either side of the bed held a telephone and an iPod and MP3 Docking Station radio alarm.

Attractive striped Roman shades and ivory sheers dressed the three windows of the light filled room. A striped celadon green chaise large enough for two was the perfect place to relax and read the complimentary newspaper or one of the magazines, watch the flat screen television, or one of the 100+ complimentary DVDs available at the reception for us to enjoy during our stay.
There was a mirror hanging on the wall over the large desk accessorized with a black leather desk blotter and flanked with two wood and leather chairs placed in the opposite corner of the room, and a discrete mini-bar housed in an Art Deco wood cabinet opposite the bed.
The luxurious beige marble bath featured a Jacuzzi tub, a green marble vanity with deep sink, walk-in shower with two showerheads, enclosed toilet, lighted shaving mirror, hairdryer, and a large selection of Gilchrist& Soames amenities.
Amenities continued with a wood vanity and stool in the foyer, which held a coffeemaker and a selection of Wolfgang Puck coffees and teas. The closet had a full-length mirror on the inside of the door, two Frette robes, umbrellas, iron and ironing board, and a safe.
In addition to the restaurant's main kitchen, they also have a kosher kitchen, which they use for special events at the hotel.
We especially appreciated the hotel's prime location from which to discover the historic and cultural Gold Coast, being within strolling distance from the many boutiques in the village, as well as its close proximity t the Great Neck train station, where a train to New York's Penn Station takes a mere 25 minutes.
The Inn at Great Neck also appealed to us with its intimate size, attention to luxurious little details, and its high level of personalized service making it perfect for the business or leisure traveler.
