Hotel Zero
Degrees, a boutique 97-room hotel, opened in late October 2009, and
is
located in the heart of downtown Stamford,
Connecticut within walking
distance of the business district, cultural venues, restaurants, and
nightlife,
and the rail station. Located in the former YMCA, the space has
metamorphosed
into an attractive contemporary and comfortable hotel, and is
conveniently
located only 45-minutes from New York
City.
With the growing green trend towards revitalizing rather
than tearing down urban buildings, the eight floor Hotel Zero Degrees is a
shining example of a transformation from its former existence from YMCA offices
into a well-appointed boutique hotel. The lobby is bright and airy with
attractive contemporary décor, a flats screen television is mounted over the fireplace that adds
charm to a corner of the eye-catching lobby lounge where the sitting
area is inviting with its inspired furniture in lipstick red and cream with
dark wood accents, interesting artwork graces the walls, and dark wood tables
flanked by heavy cream upholstered chairs provide a comfortable place for
conversation, to work, and to enjoy the complimentary breakfast buffet.

Hotel Zero Degrees Lobby
The hotel has ingeniously incorporated the YMCA fitness
center located on the second floor of the building and its Olympic-size swimming pool into the hotel design. Although
under renovation during my stay in late February 2010, Hotel Zero Degrees and
the YMCA will share the fitness center and swimming pool, which will have a separate outside entrance, and will provide hotel guests, as well as
YMCA members with access to use the facilities.

Hotel Zero Degrees Front Desk
Of the 97 rooms, 2 are suites, and Edward and I stayed in a
deluxe suite that was stylishly furnished with a king bed with a wood and
leather upholstered high headboard placed against a dramatic red and black
geometric patterned wall. The bed was dressed with a white duvet, a selection
of pillows, an attractive dark brown embroidered coverlet embroidered with red
flowers, and a matching bed skirt. Wood night tables on either side
of the bed held dark wood Asian inspired lamps with rectangular cream shades
and an iHome system, and there was an upholstered bench placed at the end of
the bed.

Guestroom
On the wall opposite the bed, there was a large wood desk in
the corner of the room with an Asian inspired lamp with cream shade, telephone,
and a round metal tray with ice bucket, and a large flat screen hi-definition
television was placed on a chest of drawers. There was a comfortable sitting
area with a lipstick red chair with a dark chocolate corduroy ottoman, a wood
cube coffee table, and a matching dark chocolate corduroy sofa bed, with
vibrant contemporary red prints in black frames on the walls. The well-lit
bathroom featured a large walk-in white tile shower, a large silver framed
mirror hung over the marble vanity that had a deep sink and a selection of
Judith Jackson Spa toiletries. Other amenities included a hairdryer, iron and
ironing board in the mirrored closet.

Bathroom
The hotel offers outstanding amenities for its guests
including complimentary on-site garage parking, complimentary wireless Internet
access, a comfortable business area with two computers and a printer, 24-hour
complimentary Starbucks coffee, tea, hot cocoa and fresh fruit in the lobby,
and a complimentary breakfast buffet.
Security at Hotel Zero Degrees is of the utmost importance;
guests must insert their hotel keycard in the elevator to access guestroom
floors, the entrance doors to the hotel lock at 11:00 pm whereby guest entrance is by keycard access only,
and the door to the parking garage also locks at 11:00 pm. Arrangements may be made with reception for
guests requiring to enter or exit the parking garage after 11:00 pm.

Breakfast Lounge
We thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast buffet consisting of a
selection of hot and cold cereals, scrambled eggs and bacon, an assortment of
croissants, sliced bread, and bagels for toasting, smoked salmon, assorted
pastries, fresh fruit, juices, coffee, tea, and hot cocoa.

Breakfast Selection
With its close proximity to the Stamford business district,
culture, and shopping, as well as being only 45-minutes by train from New York
City, Hotel Zero Degrees is perfect for business as well as leisure travelers
looking for contemporary comfort.
