The Fall 2006 Collections PDF Print E-mail
Written by Debra C. Argen

Olympus Fashion Week Fall 2006 CollectionOlympus Fashion Week in New York showcases the Fall 2006 Collections.

Each February and September, fashionistas, retail buyers, design students, editors, local and international celebrities clamor to get the best seats for the Olympus Fashion Week shows. In February, designers show their Fall collections and in September, they unveil their Spring collections. For one week, the New York fashion industry pulls out all of the stops, in a nonstop fashion frenzy with back-to-back shows, which begin at 9:00 am and finish with the last show of the day at 9:00 pm at Bryant Park, as well as at the designers’ ateliers located throughout the city. Then, when the shows end, the fashion parties begin, thus continuing the frenetic excitement.

Olympus Fashion Week Fall 2006 - Jason Wu CollectionEveryday, the fashionable crowds line up to enter The Tent, Promenade and Atelier at Bryant Park, to see the latest collections from their favorite designers, have the opportunity to see collections from up-and-coming new designers, and also get a preview of the hot new colors for the season.

Fashion Week is as much about the collections, as it is about being seen, and is also the perfect vehicle for celebrity watching. I look forward to not only seeing the designers’ collections, but also to witnessing the fashions being worn by the fashion show attendees as well. In a word, it is a fashion ‘happening.’ Some of the designs at the shows, which are way over-the-top, are clearly meant for the runway only, but indeed sometimes that is the point of a fashion show, to create walking artistry for the runway.

I must say that the colors for the Fall 2006 season are gorgeous! New Yorkers forget about our all black palette, as the new colors for the fall season are neutrals with an edge. The Pantone Fashion Color Report Fall 06 lists the fall colors with evocative names as: Simply Taupe, Pale Khaki, Apple Cinnamon, Golden Ochre, Mineral Red, Frost Gray, Vetiver, Bijou Blue, Purple Magic and Red Mahogany. Also, look for metallics, skinny pants, intricate details as well as bows for the Fall.

It would have been wonderful to attend each and every one of the fashion shows from February 3-10, 2006, whose short list of high-profile designers included Kenneth Cole, Betsey Johnson, Oscar de la Renta, Carolina Herrera, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Carmen Marc Volvo, Cynthia Rowley, and many more, however unfortunately, unlimited time is not a luxury that most of us have, so I contented myself to make time to attend a few of the shows.

On February 9, 2006, I attended the Jason Wu fashion show, and was really impressed with his collection, which is elegant, sexy, contemporary yet classic with great details, and most important at least for me, wearable.

Now that the Fall 2006 shows are over, I am looking forward to attending the Olympus Fashion Week Spring 2007 Collections from September 8 – 15, 2006 in New York. Besides the enticement of seeing the new fashions, the goody bags are always sensational!
