Fabulous Fall 2009 Menswear - Duckie Brown and Domenico Vacca PDF Print E-mail
Written by Debra C. Argen and Edward F. Nesta

Domenico Vacca TuxedoAlthough Spring may be here, Luxury Experience presents a preview of Menswear for Fall and Winter 2009, that has a decidedly sophisticated and contemporary appeal as shown by Duckie Brown and Domenico Vacca during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York.

Designers
Daniel Silver and Steven Cox of
Duckie Brown are known for their downtown cool and sophisticated collections, which continues with their Fall/Winter 2009 collection "How Duckie Can You Get." The collection, presented in February 2009, consists of 24 looks, done in a color palette of navy, black, dark brown, camel, dark grey, dark green, dark magenta, gold, and orange.

This season warmth is the operative word with Giant Pompon Hats done in black on black, orange on orange, and black on orange, reminiscent of British Royal Guard hats. Look for accessories of Black Headbands; Black Long Wool Gloves; Black elbow length Quilted Gloves; Black Shearling Gloves; Black Looped Jersey Gloves; Orange Suede Gloves; and Beaded and Embroidered Blanket Scarves. Speaking with Steven Cox we learned that each hat took him one day to make. With the recession, they wanted to bring back some of their favorite pieces like the hats, which they had done a few seasons ago, and do more of them this season.

Designer Domenico Vacca uses clean lines and a color palette of silver, dove gray, charcoal, black, beige, chocolate brown, plum, pink, blue, champagne, and hunter green for his Menswear Fall and Winter 2009 collection. Fabrics in the collection include rich plaids, lush velvets, wool, satin, and knits.

A few of the highlights of the show included double breasted coats, suits, and jackets that figured prominently in the collection and ranged from classic cut lengths to mid-thigh cuts. He uses plaids and splashes of color in the collection the way a chef adds spice, as evidenced in his chocolate brown velvet body hugging suit paired with a hunter green shirt and plum patterned tie; and a beige plaid jacket with blue, brown, and cream stripes paired with a blue shirt and plum patterned tie.

For eveningwear, Domenico Vacca showed two looks, a classic cut black double breasted tuxedo with narrow leg pants paired with a white shirt and a black bow tie; as well as a contemporary single-breasted two-button black velvet tuxedo with satin lapels and narrow leg pants paired with a champagne satin shirt.
