Both teams changed horses at the 3:20 minutes remaining mark for "new
legs" and "fresh lungs." Interesting to note is that each player will bring
8-12 horses with them to the match and will change out the horses throughout
the match whenever needed to keep the horses fresh and not overexert them.
With new horses under them, White Birch Farm took a penalty hit from
30 yards to an undefended goal, with Pablo Llorente scoring another goal, narrowing
the gap, and closing out the fast-paced first chukker, 2-3, in favor of Level
Chukker 2: The chukker started off with a penalty shot in favor of White Birch

scored a goal, evening the score 3-3 just 27 seconds into the first chukker.
Another penalty occurred, again in favor White Birch Farm, with Panelo taking
the hit from the 40-yard mark to an undefended goal and scored taking White
Birch Farm into the lead with 4-3.
There was another courtesy horse change with 3:49 minutes remaining in
the second chukker. New horses, new strength, Ferrario made a quick goal 40 seconds
later once play began and tied the score 4-4, followed by a goal by Llorente,
closing out the second chukker 5-4 in favor of White Birch Farm.
Chukker 3: Segundos Merlos scored for White Birch Farm followed by another goal
by Mariano Aguerre taking the score to 7-4. Ferrario scored for team Level
Select CBD narrowing the gap 7-5. All players opted to change horses with 3:24
minutes remaining. A penalty in favor of White Birch Farm had Llorente taking a
hit from the 40-yard line to an undefended goal bringing the score to 8-5 at
the close of Chukker 3 in favor of White Birch Farm.
Where is it?
Chukker 4: After the traditional divot stomp, the players returned to the field
for Chukker 4 with Ferrario taking a penalty shot and scoring 30 seconds into
the chukker. Another penalty in favor of Level Select CBD had Panelo taking a
shot that drove the ball 135-140 yards, however it was intercepted by Mariano
Aguerre who passed it to his son, 14-year-old Antonio Aguerre, who made his
first goal of the match bringing the score to 9-6. Another penalty had Level
Select CBD scoring and narrowing the margin to 9-7. After another horse change
with 2:30 minutes remaining, the players returned to the field with Panelo and
Ferrario working together to bring another goal through the post, followed by
another goal by Panelo to tie the score 9-9.
Chukker 5: Mariano Aguerre scored a goal for White Birch Farm bringing the
score to 10-9. The lead did not last for long as Panelo took two penalty shots,
one shot missed but the other scored and brought the score to 10-11 in favor of
Level Select CBD to close out Chukker 5.
Chukker 6: There were lots of penalties throughout the day, with Panelo scoring
again on a penalty shot, bringing the score to 10-12. Ferrario took a penalty
shot from 30 yards and scored with 1:23 minutes remaining for a new score of
13-10. With 59 seconds remaining in the match, Llorente scored for White Birch
Farm, however team Level Select CBD could not be caught and came out as the
victors with a score of 13-11 in their favor.

Background Information on Polo
Polo is played on a field measuring 300 yards by 160 yards, the equivalent
of 10 football fields. After each goal, the direction of the game changes to
ensure neither team has an advantage of sun vs shade.
A Polo match is 6 periods, called chukkers, consisting of 7:30 minutes
each. If the 6th chukker ends in a tie, then the play goes into
sudden death, with the first team to score winning the match.
There are 4 players on a team. One of the players on each team will
hold amateur status (non-ranked), with the remaining 3 carrying the balance of
the ranking for a total of 16. The higher the rank, the better and more
experienced the player. Interesting to note is that "players are ranked yearly
by their peers and the USPA on a scale of 2 to 10 goals. Team play is
handicapped based on ability."

While referred to as "polo ponies," they are full-grown horses, and
can travel up to a speed of 35-mph. Each player usually brings a minimum of 6
ponies and changes them after each chukker or more frequently as needed to rest
Players must hold the mallet in the right hand only, and players will
swap out their ponies throughout chukkers to keep their ponies fresh and
achieve optimal play, as the pony can account for up to 75% of a player's
Position 1 is the attacking position, and Position 2 is the offensive
position. These 2 positions are the "forwards."
Position 3 is the tactical leader (and usually the best player on the
team), and Position 4 plays defense.
